MEMBERS of the Grosvenor and Mabel Street Residents Association (GAMRA) in Colne have been celebrating after a receiving a Green Partnership Award of £500.

The grant was given to the group to promote community spirit in their area and will be used to buy an outdoor noticeboard to keep residents informed of what is happening locally, as well as a lawnmower to maintain the area of green space which has bee tidied up and is used by residents of both streets.

The group, which represents 60 households, have also raised additional funds through a successful jumble sale and most recently a well-attended spring fair. Janet Style, GAMRA chairman, said: "We are delighted to receive this money, which will be put to good use for the benefit of all our members. The noticeboard will be used not just for our own events but to let residents know of other things which are happening in Colne and the mower will be a big help in the upkeep of the green space which makes such a difference to our quality of life here."

The group are now thinking up new ideas to develop their community and are working with local community development worker Sue Hogg to look at bidding for more funding.
