LITTLE more than 2,000 required medical treatment during the recent Manchester Commonwealth Games.

Greater Manchester Ambulance Service figures also show that crews took just 55 to hospital for further treatment during the eleven-day event.

The majority of injuries to both athletes and spectators were of a minor nature and many were due to the surprising amount of sunshine.

GMAS bosses paid tribute to the ambulance crews for their sterling work during the Commonwealth Games.

Mr Anthony Marsh, director of operations for GMAS, said: "The co-operation and commitment of all staff, both at the Games and those providing our normal emergency service has been outstanding. We are all pleased to have played our part in Manchester's Games."
