THE Cricket season may be nearing an end in England, but not for amateur player Danny Hornby.
The 18-year-old from Walshaw Cricket Club will be flying south for the winter to take advantage of the new season in New Zealand.
Danny, of Kingston Close, Elton, will be playing for Wellington club side Johnsonville during his summer in the southern hemisphere.
The position was arranged for Danny by Walshaw's professional Jon Fielding, who spent four years with the antipodean side.
Although all-rounder Danny will receive no fee for his appearances in matches, the former Tottington High School pupil will be paid for his coaching work. Other expenses will be paid for with cash Danny has saved up while working as a check-out operative at Bury's Asda store.
Would-be professional Danny said: "It will be a change to get away from Bury for a while and I am hoping that my cricket will benefit from the continuity that I get deom playing throughout our winter.
"My stepmum and dad have been great by paying for flights over there, so I'll be doing my best for them as well as myself."
