YOUNGSTERS took to the streets at the weekend and gave them a clean sweep.
Around 20 children and their parents gathered as the New Kershaw Centre on Saturday (Aug 10), to take part in a clean-up organised by neighbourhood wardens.
Armed with litter picking sticks and bin bags, the volunteers soon had pavements in Deal Street and the surrounding Trees Estate looking spotless.
And pictured doing their bit are some of the litter pickers who gave up their Saturday to make a difference.
Following their hard work there was time for youngsters to enjoy a display about how to recycle rubbish, a face-painting session and a barbecue. Laughs a plenty were provided with the clowning antics of Charlie Chuckles.
Young participants can now look forward to a day out later this year as a reward for their efforts.
The event followed the success of a similar clean-up at Topping Fold in April, and was hailed as a great success.
Wardens project manager Steve Morris said: "The weather held up well and the volunteers made a big difference to the area.
"We were pleased that so many people came along to help."
