A FAMILY run business in Burnley is set to close with the loss of 54 jobs.
George Ratcliffe and Sons (Felts) Ltd have been making felt for carpets since 1960 at their base in Stanley Mill, Shackleton Street, with many staff having served there for more than 20 years.
The company has been in recievership since the beginning of July after a fall in demand left the business short of trade.
Bosses blamed the rise in alternative types of flooring such as laminate floorboards or cheaper forms of carpet underlay.
Richard Ratcliffe, grandson of the founder and a director, said he hoped all the employees would find alternative work.
The business, housed in the Grade II listed mill, is up for sale but as yet no offers have been received. The business isdue to close its doors for the last time on October 26.
