During my first 40 years of supporting Leigh, I grew accustomed to watching speedy wingers such as Kindon, Kitchen, Tickle, Drummond and Fox, who between them scored 607 tries for the club.
What a contrast to recent years, in which there has been an appalling lack of pace from wingers, who have often been incapable of making it from half-way to the try line, even though put in the clear.
After scoring his spectacular try for Keighley a few weeks ago, Oliver Marns was signed by Leigh, and I hoped we would see something from him; but through no fault of his own, he has not yet scored.
We League fans often joke about Union wingers, who go whole matches without receiving the ball. Marns must feel like them.
In the three games I have watched him in, he hasn't been given a decent pass from which a try might have been scored.
Come on Mr. Terzis, if you sign a speedy winger, tell his colleagues that they must make sure his talents are used.
