BURY'S famous black pudding could prove to be a tasty business winner for enterprising Debbie Pierce.
The 33-year-old businesswoman has launched her own web site to sell and supply the popular delicacy to customers all over the UK.
She is proving that while some regional produce travel well, none travel so well and so far as that supplied via her thriving Bury Black Pudding Company Ltd.
And that fact has certainly given ex-Buryites scattered throughout Britain, who retain a taste for home-grown black puddings, food for thought.
Earlier this year, Debbie carried out some market research which revealed that a large proportion of black puddings bought at Bury Market were sent to nostalgic foodies as far afield as Lanarkshire and London.
Being involved in the food industry on the market since the age of 12, Debbie decided the time was ripe to use new technology to bring Bury's famous black pudding to the whole of the British Isles.
She was quick to seize the domain name and register the Bury Black Pudding Co Ltd with Companies House. With the help of Sue Warburton from Business Link, under the auspices of the "Working for Myself" start-up programme, allied to a grant from Bury Council, the business was launched on the Internet.
"I just felt there was a distinct gap in the market. Bury black puddings are not marketed around the UK", said Debbie, of Waterside Close, Radcliffe.
"The web site allows people to order black and white puddings for their families living in other parts of the UK." Debbie continued: "We offer a next-day delivery, except when the order is received on Fridays. Customers can order puddings in three different sizes and any quantity."
She is now busily marketing her new web site and is looking forward to processing orders from all over the UK."Hopefully, what I'm doing will put Bury on the map."
Debbie gained valuable national publicity several weeks ago when she decided to use the Wimbledon tennis championships as a prime promotional tool for her company. TV cameras picked up Debbie in the crowd, waving an ad for her business attached to a St George's flag.
Her sharply-focussed skills as a shrewd entrepreneur have already resulted in the Radcliffe woman being tipped as a contender for "new business of the year."
