ANDY PREECE has issued a wake up call to his under-achieveing squad by bringing in two new faces.
The Bury boss has moved quickly following defeats in the Shakers first two games by swooping for former Wigan Athletic midfielder Ian Kilford and Terry Dunfield of Manchester City.
It's no secret that Preece has been bitterly disappointed by his side's points-free opening two fixtures when a somewhat unlucky 2-1 defeat at Oxford United was followed by a poor showing in a 1-0 home reverse to Cambridge United.
Kilford is described as a real box-to-box player who signed for Latics on a free from Nottingham Forest in 1994 and quickly became a crowd favourite with the Wigan fans.
Out of favour after an influx of new blood at the JJB Stadium, Preece believes 28-year-old 'Killer' can do a good job in the Shakers engineroom.
The Bristol-born schemer, who has been training with the Shakers for a few weeks, will sign a short term deal that could be extended if both parties wish.
Canadian-born Dunfield is a 20-year-old midfielder who comes highly-rated by Preece's friend and former Blackpool teammate Andy Morrison.
He impressed the Bury boss during the recent friendly against Kevin Keegan's side and will sign loan forms for a month with a view to a longer stay.
"Ian is a real box-to-box player and can do a great job for us." said Preece.
"He's just the kind of lad we need and has been unlucky to be released by Wigan."
"Terry is also a great footballer. He's the kind of lad who will get on the ball and make other people play.
"Andy Morrison said he's one of the best players on the ball at Manchester City and I was very impressed with him when he played against us."
Both players go straight into the squad for tomorrow's home clash against Swansea City.
"It's a wake-up call to people who may think their places in the team are safe," added Preece.
"I'm not going to sit back and let us go on a losing run like we did last season and hopefully this will give people a kick up the backside!
"No-one staked a claim in the friendly at Oldham this week so something had to be done."
Preece also has the added bonus of adding Chris Billy to the squad after a knee injury.
Gareth Seddon's specialist has said he is 100 per cent sure his back problems are caused by a blood disorder and the striker should be back training in a couple of weeks.
