A LEYLAND lass turned heads when she received star treatment at the town's new Tesco Extra supermarket.

Hilary Blockley, 25, of Haydock Avenue, won the makeover with television's This Morning Lee Stafford as part of The Citizen's exclusive competition.

Top international hair stylist Lee has a string of celebrities on his books, including the girls from pop band Atomic Kitten and the members of boy band Blue.

As well as a new hair-do lucky Hilary was given a new look by make-up artist to the stars, Emma Miles.

"It was great. I feel like a new woman!" said Hilary. "I was advised on what colours to wear and given lots of tips. I don't get the chance to treat myself very often and I really enjoyed it.

Mum-of-two Hilary was also given £200 in vouchers to spend in the Towngate store and treated to a meal with husband, Martin, at the Feilden Arms, Mellor, owned by celebrity chef Nigel Smith.

From the hundreds of entries we received The Citizen judges chose Hilary as the winner after reading her moving letter about eldest son Joseph, six, who is deaf. At just under one year old he contracted meningitis and battled for five weeks to stay alive.

When he finally pulled through doctors told the couple devastating news that their first born was deaf. Brave Joe underwent an operation to insert a high-tech hearing device to help his hearing, a proceedure his parents decided to consent to despite surgeons warning them it could leave their son paralysed on one side of his face.

"It was tough," said Hilary. "But it was something we decided to go for. Now he can hear when he wears it. It's all been worthwhile in the end."
