A BLACKBURN building society branch has made a desperate appeal to raise money for the starving people of Southern Africa.
The Skipton Building Society, on King Willam Street, wants people to donate money to the Y Care International to help it feed nearly 13 million people.
The organisation is part of the YMCA movement and works with young people across the developing world.
The latest appeal wants to help the people across Southern Africa who have been affected by droughts, wars and political instability.
Sean Brown, of Y Care International, said: "This is a desperately bleak situation which is likely to get much worse, unless there is a substantial and effective relief effort.
"All funds will provide immediate food assistance, relief and rehabilitation for those most in need."
Joanne Southorn, Skipton's branch manager, said: "This appeal is vital to assist the millions of people in Southern Africa, as the effects of the food crisis have devastated the region."
If anyone would like to help they are asked to come into the branch or contact Joanne on 01254 670616.
