STAN Ternent faces a tough job at Burnley but he is the man to get it right, claimed Wolves boss David Jones.

Having seen his side extend their remarkable sequence against the Clarets to 11 straight wins he explained: "Stan has got a difficult job on but he will do it.

"He is a close friend of mine and I have a lot of respect for him. For 90 minutes out there I have no sympathy for him but I will always have a beer or two after the game."

Jones and Ternent have vastly different resources at their disposal but they did share huge disappointment at the end of last season.

The Wolves boss explained: "I phoned him last year when Burnley didn't make the play-offs and when we then lost in the play-off he phoned me and said I now knew how he had felt."

After two weekends of the season, the Clarets are the only club in the first division without a point and for the second match running they were hit by a sending off, this time being forced to play for all but seven minutes with a man down.

Paul Cook saw red for a late challenge on Alex Rae but, having slammed his players for their display against Brighton, Ternent was much happier with his men despite the 3-0 defeat at Molineux.

Burnley keeper Nik Michopoulos had gifted Wolves a goal after 85 seconds and the swift dismissal left Burnley up against it but the ten men battled hard.

"They showed commendable spirit against a very good side," he claimed. "Sometimes it is not losing, it is how you lose.

"I thought they had a go but as soon as the second goal went in, as a contest it was finished. But as a spectacle it was finished in the first ten minutes when Cooky was sent off.

"We never gave ourselves a chance. We went to Wolves to play 4-3-3 but got off to a bad start."
