COLNE manager John Lister felt the heat played a part in his side's stalemate with Cheadle Town.
"Day one of a new season is always tough on the legs and today was no different," he said.
"Both sides began the match at a frenetic pace and it was inevitable that the weather would eventually take its toll."
With the bulk of the action taking place in midfield and both defences on top, chances were few and far between.
Looking to impress on his debut, Carl Barton did manage to create an opening, dancing past three Cheadle defenders only to be denied by an excellent near post save.
Jonathan Irvine also wasted a brace of opportunities, yet Colne's overall
performance pleased their manager.
"We usually kick-off a new season with a defeat, so to emerge with a point and a clean sheet is very encouraging," he said.
"I was particularly impressed with the new boys Carl Barton, Tom Currie, Daniel Howard and Ben Jackson. They slotted into the side with ease and showed real promise for the season ahead."
Colne are in action tomorrow night when they make the trip to Holker Old Boys.
