ACCRINGTON Stanley boss John Coleman admitted it was a tough decision to leave out Jonathan Smith.
The tall defender, who was a virtual ever-present last season, was omitted from his side's opening day victory over Runcorn on Saturday.
Instead, Steve Halford, Mark Sertori and Robbie Williams started in a back three.
"Jon has done really well and it was a difficult decision but we have got good competition for places," said the Reds chief.
"Jon is a good professional and always keen to learn.
"He would have been upset by the decision but I am sure he is determined to get back in the team.
"He won't let it get him down and he is more than capable of getting his place back."
Stanley make the trip to Colwyn Bay tonight, keen to record their second victory of the season to make it a good start.
Skipper Peter Cavanagh should return after being suspended for their opening dgame while midfielder Mike Marsh (hamstring) and striker Lutel James (ankle) are doubts.
It could mean a debut for new signing Dean Calcutt, who Coleman signed from Bradford Park Avenue for £5,000 last Friday.
