SIX months after winning the Worthington Cup, the players and backroom staff of Blackburn Rovers get invited along to have tea and sticky buns with the Mayor.
Now there's nothing wrong with having a civic reception for the team - but isn't it a case of too little, too late?
There were very good reasons for not celebrating cup success straight after the final - as fans at Turf Moor will remind you, Rovers did have a few relegation fears at the time. But once Premier League survival was secured, why no big end-of-season do?
A major cup win is an occasion for the fans to celebrate. Where was their chance to reflect in a little glory?
It's said the Worthington Cup victory was worth millions in free publicity. Let's hope that at the end of this season if Rovers win something, they - and more importantly the town - celebrate in style.
