A PETROL station cashier today said she would be living in fear until two robbers who threatened her with a knife were caught.

Vicky Douglas, 21, has yet to leave her home in the Railway Road area of Darwen or sleep since the robbery on Saturday evening.

She is also thinking of quitting the 15 hours-a-week job at Darwen Service Station and called for bosses to improve security for staff, who are all women.

The men burst into the garage and terrified Vicky by brandishing the knife. She had been in the job for only a month.

Vicky handed over cash from the till, and the men fled, knocking over a customer on their way out. She was then interviewed by police until 2am before finally being allowed to return home.

"I remember all of it," said Vicky, who is married and has a 14-year-old step child.

"They didn't make any physical threats, but I was scared. It was all over in two minutes, but now I cannot go out. My curtains are still shut.

"I have been ringing the police and they haven't caught them and I am worried if I will see them in the town again.

"I have never been confronted by anything like this before. I have never been involved with the police and it was all a bit strange," she said.

Vicky also thanked her manager at Darwen Service Station who she said had looked after her beyond the call of duty since the robbery.

But she said she wanted the garage to tighten up on security.

"It's a target," she said, "there is only one exit for staff and that is at the front of the building where the customers come in.

"Also I don't think it would of happened if they had CCTV cameras. All the staff are girls and its dangerous. I don't think I will carry on working there. I can't see myself going back.

"My manager and other staff have been really good, but the bosses above that haven't asked if I am well at all."

Vicky described one of the men as white, about 5ft 8in, skinny, with shaven hair. He was wearing a T-shirt, dark blue track suit bottoms and dirty white trainers.

She said the other was 6ft 3in, skinny, with shaven hair. He was wearing a dark shirt, tracksuit bottoms and white trainers.

Anyone with information should call Darwen police on 01254 701777 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
