DEFENDING champions Atherton Collieries proved that they meant business in the Goldline Trophy last night when they steam-rollered Eagley aside in the first thirteen minutes.

Needing all three points to make the last eight, Colls grabbed a tenth minute advantage through Matty Swailes' as the highly-rated striker turned his marker before firing home.

Better was to follow for the hosts as Paul Vandenburg's trickery set up a goal for Nicky Fisher three minutes later.

Eagley had little time to regroup as they hunted the point that they needed to make the quarters themselves.

Will Archer pulled a goal back for the visitors six minutes before the break but they could make no further impression after the interval and it was Colls who took that place in the knockout phase.

Their next round opponents will be decided tonight as Group A takes shape with Tempest United taking on Turton. In Group C, Hindsford play host to Daisy Hill. Both matches kick-off at 6.30pm.
