IMPROVEMENT work to the Lancaster canal has been given a £200,000 boost by British Waterways.
A 9km length of towpath from Beaumont to Carnforth is to be upgraded, with new access points for disabled visitors, a high quality service and interpretation boards and signage.
Lancaster Canal marketing officer, Claire Chapman, said: "Lancaster Canal passes through historic towns and villages like Carnforth, Hest Bank and Bolton-le-Sands, popular stopping places for holiday boaters to explore the attractions of north Lancashire.
"The towpath also provides local communities with safe pedestrian access and we are looking to include parts of it in a circular walk linking places of interest."
