A DEDICATED van and team providing a quick response to complaints of litter dumping is being discussed by councillors.
The Independents want to put forward proposals for a district wide litter 'flying squad.'
"City Contract Services do an excellent job of street cleansing," said Independent Cabinet member, Cllr David Barker, "but we need to look at helping them improve the service with innovative new ideas and supporting funding".
"The 'Flying Squad' would initially be called out by the new street wardens, and if successful, as we're sure it will be, would be extended throughout the district.
Of course constantly clearing away tipped rubbish would have to be backed up by a strict fines policy for those people constantly abusing the system.
"We hope that more people will take a pride in their area and ensure it's kept litter free" said Cllr Tricia Heath, "The initial blitz and continuing clearance can be done by the City Council, but it's up to everyone else to play their part as well."
