THE government is investing £30 million into local community health services after the borough's MPs mounted a campaign for extra NHS money.
The MPs, following a meeting with councillors and health chiefs, met health ministers in London and argused the case that Ashton, Leigh and Wigan Primary Care Trust should be part of the national initiative called LIFT (Local Improvement Finance Trust.)
Areas that have been identified for investment are: GP Premises, community facilities and a link to sure start in Hindley; improved GP accommodation and community facilities, GP development in Golborne plus child care and elderly care centres.
Delighted at the news Leigh MP Andy Burnham said: "This is a major watershed for community health services in our borough. It will transform our GP services and shows that Labour is listening and delivering here."
