Hyndburn champs
IT has been confirmed that Hyndburn Women have earned promotion from Division 4WC of the Northern Women's League.
Victory in their final fixture at Blackburn a couple of weeks ago means that they will go up as Champions. There was also great news for the Burnley Boys Team. Their late rally in the Young Athletes League has meant that they have staved off the threat of relegation from Division One.
Peacock's joy
VANESSA Peacock was the winning woman in the Darwen Gala Fell Race on Saturday.
The Clayton veteran recorded 29 minutes 29 seconds over the four mile course from Bold Venture Park to Darwen Tower and back. Jo Prowse of Keighley and Craven finished second with Jacqueline Shaw from organisers Darwen Dashers third. Brian Cole in his home town finished third behind Malcolm Fowler of Pennine Fell Runners, while juniors Wajid Ali representing Felldancers AC and Callum Fitzpatrick of Hyndburn were fourth and fifth respectively.
Green's congrats
AMERICAN-based Blackburn Harrier Michael Green has sent his congratulations to Kerry Gillibrand for her performances in the Commonwealth Games 1500m.
Michael said: "I know Kerry well. We used to run at Hyndburn together back when running was all very innocent and enjoyable! I am glad to see she is running so well."
Michael is on form himself having set a course record 14:55 to win the Lamprey Healthcare 5K at Newmarket in New Hampshire a fortnight ago.
Lee runner-up
LEE Passco was second in the four race Haigh Hall 5M Road Series which finished last week.
Clayton Harrier Lee was seventh in the final race as Phil Darbyshire of Wigan Phoenix won the race and the series. There were successes for Chorley Harriers at opposite ends of the age spectrum with Junior Martin Bennett and Over 60 John McDonald both class winners in the series and in the final event. Elsewhere, Passco's Clayton team mate Mark Brown won the Arncliffe Gala 4M Road Race at Skipton.
