SOME Bradshawgate traders have called for the Victorian-style boulevade canopy outside the burned out indoor market to be demolished -- because they claim it attracts unwelcome pedlars.
It's funny that. They wanted it rebuilt as an attraction after it was damaged in an accident by a reversing lorry.
The stained glass attraction, which cost over £30,000 and was paid for by Coalfield Challenge cash, had not long been back to its former glory when fire destroyed the arcade behind.
The canopy is not in the best of condition right now but the Town Centre Management Group will ask Wigan planners to look at the cost of repairing it. There's no way it should vanish.
All I've noticed in the vicinity is a Big Issue seller and the odd musician, and I can't see what harm they are doing.
I'd be more concerned about the shop which has a "Delboy" outside using a loud mike to attract customers. Now that annoys me no end.
