THERE must be many young people in the area who deserve to be recognised for their good work in the locality.
Soroptimist International of Leigh are looking for a special person to be honoured with their Youth in the Community Award 2002.
Nominations have flooded in in other participating towns, but as usual this district has been slow to react.
It seems we don't like blowing our own trumpets here! People still have the attitude that they'll never win anything -- including me. But it's not true. No entry, no win.
Surely some parent, school, Scouts or Guides, or voluntary group knows of an outstanding youngster who has helped to improve someone's quality of life and whose name they can put forward.
Some deserving nominations have been received, but I'm sure there are many more young people aged between 14 and 25 whose valuable work could be considered.
It doesn't take much to pick up a nomination form and write a glowing tribute for those who deserve to be honoured. Just think what a difference it would make to a CV.
The closing date for entry is the end of the month. So make an effort and pick up a form at Rays Fashions, Atherton, or Cooks Shoes, Market Street, Leigh. Completed ones can be returned to the shops or to me at The Journal Office.
