LOCAL tennis players are in for a busy week as the Lancashire County Closed Championships get underway.
All the action takes place at the impressive Bolton Arena starting this weekend and running through to Sunday, September 1.
Hawkshaw's Elizabeth Ullathorne is seeded number one in the Under-12 event and, along with sister Nicola who is competing in the Under-16 competition, she will be hopeful of taking more silverware back to Two Brooks Lane.
One Hawkshaw member well used to doing just that is Lisa Cartwright (pictured left) and she will be defending the Ladies title she has won on no fewer than nine occasions.
In the mens competition, Holcombe Brook's Chris Peet, Lancashire County Performance Officer, again teams up with clubmate Mark Schofield and they will attempt to retain the mens' doubles title they won last year.
Meanwhile over the river at Walmer Tennis Club, Andrew Davies will be hoping for great things in the mens' singles competition.
Finals weekend will be held on Saturday, August 31 and Sunday, September 1 between 12 noon and 4pm.
