FIREFIGHTERS are warning of the dangers of chip pans after a man suffered burns to his head and arms on Monday evening (Aug 19).
The incident happened at a house in Sumner Avenue, Ainsworth, after the chip pan was left on the cooker. The smoke alarm alerted the owner who entered the smoke-filled kitchen and carried the chip pan outside where it burst into flames, causing the injuries.
He was taken to Fairfield General Hospital.
A fire service spokesman said: "The fact that there was a smoke alarm is to be praised but he shouldn't have picked up the chip pan.
"Ideally no one should have a chip pan which are one of the biggest causes of house fires."
