A SUPERB all round performance by professional Raouf Akbar inspired Preston to a magnificent 94 run victory over Lancaster.

After contributing an impressive 94 to Preston's total of 226 Akbar then took eight wickets for 83 runs as the visitors were all out for 130 to ensure a 15 point win for the West Cliff side.

Leyland were narrowly beaten by second placed Morecambe who lost seven wickets in reaching the Fox Lane side's total of 202 for the loss of seven wickets.

Motors suffered a comprehensive seven wicket defeat at Darwen who maintained their grip at the top of the Northern Premier League.

Motors were put in to bat on a good track, and despite losing Baines for 13, cruised to 125-1 before the second wicket fell. Mercer struck, bowling Catteral for 35. Only six more runs were added before he struck again, trapping Patel leg before for just four.

Professional Ashraf made a fine 100 before he became Mercer's fourth victim with the score on 197.

Motors finished on 204-4 from their 57 overs with Aspinall undefeated on 44. This victory leaves Darwen 21 points clear at the top of the league. Motors still prop up the table with Leyland one place above them. Preston are fifth from bottom.

On Saturday Preston are at home to Fleetwood while Leyland host Blackpool and Motors entertain Netherfield.
