GREATER Manchester companies have been quick to respond to the challenge of this year's Queen's Award for Enterprise competition.
This is the UK's highest accolade for outstanding business success. So far, many local businesses have applied for details of the 2003 awards which are given for exceptional achievement in international trade, innovation and sustainable development.
But there is still time for others to apply. The closing date is October 31. However, if possible, companies are advised to enter early to give the Queen's Award office time to provide assistance if required in completing entries in the best possible way.
David Moore, Queen's Award secretary, said: "Over the years, the North West has produced many worthy winners, including 14 in the 2002 competition. We are confident the region will continue to provide more business champions."
He added: "Such firms know that the Queen's Awards are good for business. They don't just recognise growth, they can also help to create it. Many winners find that the award is a valuable promotional and marketing tool in both home and overseas markets."
Former winners include two Bury firms, Chadwick's of Bury and W.H. Tracey whose awards recognised their export achievements.
