VANDALS have left volunteers with a £3,000 headache after setting fire to one of two marquees used at Cleveleys Jubilee Day.

The marquee was about 25 per cent destroyed during the night after the event. It leaves a financial headache for 1st Kirkham and Wesham Scouts who hired out the equipment.

"It is just mindless vandalism" said Jubilee Day co-ordinator Gordon Roberts.

"This is a community event and it is a sad state of affairs that this is done by someone in the community."

The marquee is not insured for new replacement value so the scouts will have to dig in their pockets to replace it.

Scouts' chairman John Barnes said they would probably have to use some of the money they had set aside for building a new headquarters.

"It is going to cost a considerable amount. The marquees cost £120 each to hire for the day. We raised about £1,200 with them last year.

"Now perhaps we will need some other kind organisation to help us out." Despite the ending, Mr Roberts said the event was a great success with a good turnout.
