PROTESTING residents are set for another round in the battle against plans to develop the Miners' Home.
Fresh plans for luxury apartments have been submitted for the building and Pembroke Court Residents' Association have called a meeting for Friday (August 23) in response.
Blackpool planning department have described the redesign of apartment blocks to the north and south of the home as significant but that seems unlikely to satisfy the residents' association.
They are especially concerned by the five and six-storey block to the south which will be closest to their three-storey building.
"People are going to be overlooked by this block," said chairman Norman Sherman.
"The apartments are just in the boundary line of the Miners' Home. These apartments will be looking straight into people's bedrooms."
He said they were also worried by potential traffic with the main access remaining on the promenade. "You can imagine what this could be like during the illuminations. When they start building there will be a lot of traffic with people looking for places to park."
He said there should be a lower design more in keeping with the area.
"I think they could do a bit more like a housing complex with nice gardens, not towering blocks."
The residents' meeting is at the United Reformed Church on Warbreck Drive at 7.30pm.
There will also be apartments within the Miners' Home under the Persimmon Homes plan. To the rear there will be houses which have also been changed in design.
A council spokesman said they had not yet come to a view about the new scheme and there was no date for it to be considered by the planning committee.
