A THEMED Peter Pan mural has been unveiled at a Liverpool hospital -- and it's all thanks to the creativity of a Cleveleys schoolgirl.

Rossall School pupil Lauren Davis, of Queen's Walk, Cleveleys, designed the mural for the walls of a cafe at Great Ormond Street Hospital, as part of a Children's BBC competition.

CBBC Exchange viewers were asked to create a design for the walls of the hospital's Peter Pan cafe, featuring three main characters from the Disney film.

Eleven-year-old Lauren completed her A4 sized picture in just a few hours, drawing Peter Pan, his adversary Captain Hook and Tinkerbell the fairy.

Her design was transferred to the walls of the ground floor cafe by Disney artists, and on Monday she met boy band 3SL as the finished 20 ft mural was revealed.

A delighted Lauren said: "3SL were really nice and friendly. We all unveiled the mural together.

"I have never really entered competitions like this before or won anything like this and it was strange seeing my design on the walls, a bit unreal."

The members of 3SL added: "It's great to be associated with Great Ormond Street Hospital because it is such an amazing place and gives hope to hundreds of kids every day.

"We hope this mural is going to help cheer up some of the patients, as well as their mums and dads."

Great Ormond Street Hospital has owned the rights to Peter Pan since 1929. It was given them by the book's author, J M Barrie, who was asked to help with the hospital's fund-raising.

The unveiling of the mural also coincided with the video and DVD release of animated adventure, Peter Pan: Return to Never Land. A special limited edition of the video will be on sale at Tesco, with £1 from every video going to Great Ormond Street Hospital children's charity.

Every year the hospital's specialised doctors and nurses care for more than 100,000 children from across the country, many of whom have rare or life-threatening conditions.

And Lauren, who has always been interested in art, added: "I hope the mural will help cheer people up."
