CLITHEROE may think they are pretty well-known in non-League football, what with their exploits in the FA Vase and their push for promotion to the UniBond League over the past few seasons.

But now their fame is set spread even further - thanks to appearances in the Sun newspaper and on Radio Five Live.

Last Saturday's game against Prescot Cables was sponsored by the Aboriginal group ATSIC - the Aboriginal and Torres Straights Islanders Commission - in a bid to raise the profile of the Aboriginal cause.

It has certainly done that - and has raised the profile of the Blues in the process.

Blues fan Bruce Dowles - who has visited Australia and spent time in Aboriginal communities - was the go-between who set the match sponsorship up, and he and chairman Dave Burgess will be appearing on Five Live at around 11.45am tomorrow morning.

Blues chairman Dave Burgess said: "Most clubs struggle to get matchday sponsorship at all but we managed to secure sponsorship from halfway across the world.

"And next year we are hoping to do the same again but hopefully some of the members of the ATSIC group will be able to come over to perform before the game.

"We have been on Talk Radio, in the Sun, the Metro and now we are going on Five Live. It is great publicity for the club."

Clitheroe travel to Woodley Sports tomorrow.
