YOUNG chairman James Webster has a plan to take Colne into the UniBond League in five years.
The 24-year-old became the youngest ever chairman when he took over at the helm of the NWCL Division Two side.
Webster is the grandson of former Burnley manager and Colne Dynamoes scout Harry Potts, and aims to make an impact like his grandfather.
"I do want to make an impression and have a five year plan. I believe Colne are sleeping giants as they have so much history," said the former Burnley pro who was a youngster when Dynamoes made their charge for the Football League in 1980s.
"Whenever I told people I was playing for Colne they always said 'oh yes Colne Dynamoes' and we want to bring back those days here.
"Dave Blacklock, the old chairman, wanted someone to take the club one step further.
"I saw the chance and want to get the club going forward."
Webster, who is also a professional golfer and works at Lee Valley Driving Range in Rishton, is currently taking his UEFA B badge to become a qualified football coach.
Colne have taken big steps forward in recent years. They went out of business as Colne Dynamoes in 1990 when then Chairman Graham White decided he had had enough after the club was refused permission to join the Conference because of the Holt House ground.
They reformed as Colne, under Blacklock, and started all over again.
They had been the whipping boys of Division Two up until last season when, managed by John Lister, they suddenly made a few people sit up and take notice.
Lister got a good crop of young local players together and they finished 14th after being in the top eight for most of the season. They don't have a game this weekend.
"We have started to improve," said the new chairman. "There are a lot of young lads here and I am one of the senior players. We also have Gareth West and Andy Lawson who used to play at Burnley.
"It is going to be strange when I am no longer just 'Webby' but the chairman as well and I am sure the lads will take the micky out of me.
"But they will get used to it."
The ground also needs a lot of work and Webster is determined to use all the means of funding available to make sure it is up to the differing standards.
"To go forward we need to develop the ground, and we are looking into grants and things.
"But before all that we have got to make sure we can do it on the pitch.
"We need a new striker which costs money but this is the first thing we need to look at to make sure we get a good start to the season and start realising our ambitions.
"But we won't go silly on money and spoil the club. That is the wrong thing to do as at the moment it is a friendly club and we want to keep it that way while progressing."
Meanwhile Lister is urging the people of Colne to come and support them once again.
"We desperately want the people of Colne to support their town team. Dynamoes were once attracting crowds of over 1,000, and the club needs their support once again to help us achieve our goals.
"Obviously we aren't going to attract crowds like that, but if only 20 per cent of those began to once again follow their club then it would be a start!"
Gareth West has been made club captain now Webster has stepped up to chairman and Gary Dalton has also been appointed as Assistant Manager.
