BURNLEY Borough Council has invited a top-level team of local government experts to carry out a 'root and branch' inspection of its services next month.
The review will be carried out by the Improvement and Development Agency.
Chief Executive of the council Gillian Taylor said: "We wanted an honest and independent view of our strengths and weaknesses as an authority.
"I'm sure that some of the review recommendations will suggest the need for dramatic improvements in some areas, but we welcome that."
The Burnley review will take place in the week beginning September 16 and will be led by experts from the local government sector.
The town is among around 150 councils that have put themselves forward for the reviews.
