POLICE have kept up the pressure on Pendle drugs suspects with more raids in the area.

A sizeable amount of drugs was seized by police in two separate raids.

A 37-year-old man was arrested and a quantity of heroin recovered at an address in Burnley Road, Colne, and officers seized amphetamine when a warrant was executed on a home in Leeds Road. A 31-year-old man was arrested.

The raids came only days after police received rousing applause from stunned shoppers after a drugs raid in the Galleries, Nelson.

Pennine Division Support Unit Inspector Chris Bithell said: "We promised we would carry out extra drugs raids and that's exactly what we are doing.

"Drug related crime and the misery this causes for local law abiding residents will simply not be tolerated in Pendle.

"We are determined to drive down drug-related crime and will no leave stone unturned in our efforts to track down suspected offenders and put them before the courts."

Insp Bithell urged members of the public to have the confidence to come forward with information.

He said: "People with information about drug dealing or any other crime can either contact us direct on 01282 425001 or call Crimestoppers free on 0800 555 111.

Last week drugs with a street value of £5,000 were seized by police during a raid on an address in Nelson Town Centre.

More than 200 pieces of what police believe to be crack cocaine and a significant amount of what is thought to be cannabis, as well as cash and property, were discovered at a flat in The Galleries.

Local shoppers standing nearby applauded as 14 police officers forced their way into the flat.

Two men, aged 23 and 24, were arrested during the raid, carried out in direct response to concerns from the local community and information supplied to Crimestoppers.
