Woodley sports...1 Clitheroe...2
CLITHEROE top the NWCL Division One table after picking up all three points at Woodley.
Lee Sculpher's men continued their unbeaten start to the season when skipper Neil Spencer scored twice in the first half.
His first was on the half hour when he broke free in the box and poked in his rebounded shot off the keeper.
Clitheroe doubled their lead just before half time when Spencer headed gome a deep cross by Jason Jones.
Between the goals, Woodley had their moments but the Clitheroe defence held firm.
On the hour Spencer had to be replaced by Gary Jackson after sustaining a deep cut above his eye but the Blues continued to run the game.
Andy Cowking had a shot saved and Lee Cryer missed a sitter.
The home side pulled a goal back through their centre half Ringland but with only 15 minutes to go it was not enough.
They caused a stir in the last minute though, when they headed over from a free kick.
Sculpher said: "We deserved the points and I was particualry pleased with the way we defended as a team."
Clitheroe hope to continue their excellent start to the season when they visit promoted Squires Gate tomorrow night.
