HUNDREDS of people from Burnley are set to attend a massive carnival this weekend aimed at defeating racism in the town.
The Love Music Hate Racism concert was originally planned for Towneley Park on Sunday, September 1 with bands like The Doves and The Shining headlining.
However council concerns about safety meant the event, organised by the Anti Nazi League, was refused a licence and organisers were forced to look for an alternative venue.
The concert will now take place at Platt Fields in Manchester with a showcase of musical styles including soul, rock, hip-hop and garage. There will also be a dance tent and children's entertainment.
All the bands signed up to play are giving their time for free. The day will start at 11am with a march from Manchester Town Hall to the concert venue.
Despite the fact that the venue has been switched from Burnley, organisers say hundreds of people from the town are planning to go to the concert to show their support against racism.
The group is organising coaches from across the country to and from the event.
A spokesman said: "The event was planned for Towneley Park but the council refused permission and so we have had to move it. It would have been a fantastic event to help unite people in Burnley, but even though it's no longer going to go ahead there tickets are selling really well. This looks set to be one of the big music events of the summer and it's important that people from Burnley support it."
Anyone interested in coach travel to the event should call the ANL on 020 7924 0333.
