A NEW support group for parents of children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) has been set up in Colne.
Meetings take place at the Open Door Centre, in Great George Street, opposite the town hall, on the last Thursday of each month, between 7 and 9pm. The group covers Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale and the next meeting will be on Thursday.
Group secretary Elaine Middleton said: "Children with ADHD are excessively active and talkative, easily bored and difficult to discipline. They have poor concentration and listening skills and nag and argue until parents give in.
"Our group is here to offer support to parents from other parents who know what they are going through and to give them a break for at least one evening.
"ADHD is often mistakenly seen as poor parenting or having naughty children rather than the medical condition which it is.
"The lack of understanding from other people is difficult for parents to cope with on top of their struggle with the children."
