A NEW primary school for 420 pupils could be developed to replace one whose sites are a mile apart.
Hyndburn Borough Council's development services committee will tomorrow look into plans for the new school on land off Exchange Street in Accrington.
Spring Hill Primary School is split over two sites, one in Exchange Street and another in Hannah Street, which use buildings from 1899.
Difficulties associated with managing the two sites, coupled with an increase in maintenance and running costs of the old buildings, has resulted in the need for a newer single site school.
The proposal for a new single site school, which will be determined by Lancashire County Council after Hyndburn Borough Council has passed on its observations, is for a single storey building to accommodate 420 children.
Access for vehicles to the site would be from next to 82 Exchange Street and would require the demolition of six garages.
The plans for the development also include proposals for an all-weather pitch, measuring 60m by 40m, three play areas and provision for parking 22 vehicles.
Both the all-weather pitch and the new school would be made available for use to the general community out of school hours.
