A TERRIFIED landlord was confronted with a knife-weilding robber who broke into his pub while he was asleep in bed.
The incident happened at the Gordon Lennox Arms, Burnley Road, Cliviger, at 5.55am yesterday. The landlord, Ian Jagger, has only been at the pub a few weeks.
Detective Sergeant Peter Simm said: "The landlord was awoken by the sound of smashing glass when the burglar broke the kitchen window to get into the pub.
"The landlord then saw the door handle turning on his bedroom door and was confronted by a man who was holding a knife.
"He threatened the landlord and demanded money from him before lunging towards him with the knife in a threatening manor.
"The landlord points out a quantity of money which is kept in the bedroom although it wasn't a massive amount. The offender took the money and left the room demanding that the landlord waited until he had gone."
The burglar made off with £150 in cash and a wallet with a small amount of cash. The wallet was later recovered in West Street, Todmorden, and the knife, which was taken from the pub's kitchen was found in a wheelie bin in Cliviger.
The offender is described as white, in his mid 20s, 5ft 8ins, with short black hair, thin face, light-coloured trousers and wearing trainers.
Det Sgt Simm added: "We are not ruling out the possibility that perhaps there were two men involved, either as a getaway driver or as an accomplice.
"We will be carrying out door to door inquiries in Cliviger and Todmorden and are working with Todmorden police."
