OVER the next fortnight an incredible 65,000 delegates will attend the Earth Summit in Johannesburg.

It will almost certainly produce lots of good intentions but will achieve nothing.

The cost of hosting the summit will be enormous and one cannot help but think that the money would have been better spent on the starving people of Africa.

One thing that will unite the delegates will be the readiness to condemn President George Bush who has refused to attend the summit.

However, I have more respect for President Bush, who disagrees with things like Kyoto, than the delegates who agree with the terms of Kyoto yet fail to implement them.

Finally, I applaud President Bush for being the only western leader to take a genuinely tough stance against the actions of Robert Mugabe who is starving his own people to death in Zimbabwe while the rest of the world makes feeble protests and does nothing.
