I AM writing in response to T.

Frick's letter concerning cannabis.

I think a little education is in order.

Firstly, you don't have to smoke tobacco in order to enjoy cannabis.

Myself, and many of my friends, use pipes and eat cakes.

Personally, I wouldn't touch cigarettes with a bargepole, yet I've been a smoker for seventeen years.

Secondly, the police do have tests to detect cannabis in drivers.

These tests, usually swabs, have been used in various counties and the results have been good.

These tests are very simple to perform, and like the breathyliser, can be done at the roadside.

Thirdly, scientists have found no conclusive proof that passive smoking causes health problems.

If passive smoking was as dangerous as scaremongers like to make out, then we would all be dropping like flies.

I'd be more worried about the diesel and petrol fumes that are pumped out on a daily basis.

Fourthly, he say's the authorities in Bangkok and Singapore etc.

have the right attitude when they execute drug users.

Since when was it a good thing to take another human being's life? Does he think that I should be executed or locked up for years at the taxpayers' expense just because I prefer cannabis to alcohol?

Does he drink alcohol at weekends? I bet he does.

Alcohol is a far more dangerous drug than cannabis according to scientific reports.

The effect of alcohol on most of the major organs is horrific and the anti-social behaviour that goes with it can be just as horrific.

Let's face it, you never see a pot-head vomiting in the street on a Friday night or mugging old ladies.

They're all at home eating chocolate!

At the end of the day, there are more important issues to worry about than the triviality of who's having a smoke.

Why don't you try getting worked up about real issues like the floods in Europe, the brown haze over Asia and the potential war in the Middle East.
