PLEASE can someone enlighten us all on Labour's position on the 2000 Festivals scandal?

At the time, Labour Cllr Yates continually stated that she believed Mr Middlesborough's claim that the MBI's had offered £40,000 to Kalimba for three festivals and blamed leader of the council Heath and chairman of economic development Cllrt Morris for the mess.

Shortly after, Cllr Morris told full council that it was "ludicrous and illogical" to suggest they had offered Kalimba £40,000.

Cllr Heath was reported in the press as saying they had in fact "offered Mr Middlesborough's company the £40,000, but it was all the fault of political games by Lab Cllr's Yates, Blamire and chums in association with arts officer John Harris, that they were subsequently cancelled".

Now that the cabinet have finally decided, two years later, to stop wasting further taxpayers money on the whole mess, Cllr Barker orchestrates a vote of 13-1 to back MBI Cllr's Heath & Morris to the hilt and to get the cabinet to yet again reverse its decision to settle with Mr Middlesborough and proceed onwards, once more, to the High Court, armed with all these solid and reliable witnesses statements and our hard-earned ratepayers money.

Regardless of the fact that the lack of proper large festivals is hitting traders extremely hard in the town, as they were told at last week's meeting, we are having less crowd pulling festivals each year.

What about the Summer Breeze style tribute festival the other week in the guise of Light and Water? Haven't we all seen great stars Edwin Starr and Geno Washington etc before somewhere? All we want is the good festivals back.

Come on Cllr Barker, we may be confused but we are not stupid.

Who is correct here?

Stop playing political games both Cllr Yates and yourself can't both be correct on this issue and you are supposed to be in the same party.

You are however correct in saying this is too important to cover up, and the outcome should prove interesting.
