POLICE have appealed for information after a 60-year-old man was knocked unconscious and had his nose broken during a street robbery.
The man was walking home after a night out in Accrington town centre.
He was attacked at the junction of Pembroke Street with Stanley Street and had his wallet containing £80 in cash and various credit cards stolen. A set of keys were also taken.
Police said there was no evidence to link this robbery, between 10.30pm and 10.50pm on Sunday, with one on Nigel Dewhurst, 40, last Sunday, but that the similarities did arouse suspicions.
Sergeant Mark Rothwell, of Accrington CID, said: "This man was walking along the street after a night out and was struck to the ground.
"As a result of the assault he now has a broken nose and severely blackened and swollen eyes but he remembers nothing of the attack.
"If anybody saw this incident please contact us. We have done house to house inquiries and are examining CCTV footage but require further assistance from the public.
"This was a similar time and similar location to the attack on Nigel Dewhurst but at this stage there is no evidence to link the two although the level of violence and the locality does arouse suspicions."
Mr Dewhurst was attacked at the junction of Barnfield Street with Beaconsfield Street on Sunday, August 18. He suffered multiple fractures to his face and had just £8 stolen.
Anyone with information should call Accrington CID on 01254 353741.
