CONTRARY to many of your readers from the Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council area, I have to say, that I think the ruling party is doing a wonderful job and deserve all of my £60 per month council tax, and every penny of its highly inflated expenses.
To justify my comments, lets look at what I get.
1. A traffic free zone in the centre of town with car parking for all and sundry. (Roadside cafes and pavilion redevelopment and as and when my tax goes up to £70 per month).
2. On Bolton Road we have 4 pieces of cast iron pulley wheel that purport to be art at who knows what price.
3. On Northgate and Town Hall Street we have wonderful steel gates that restrict the movement of our disabled and wheelchair bound residents and visitors.
4. The orbital route that has been developed to cope with the traffic free zone, where cars park at will, is the best orbital route I have ever seen for getting delayed with roadworks, traffic lights that don't work (Copy Nook prime example, still covered over after 12 months) etc.
5. Not only can we not lay cobblestones in Church Street properly; we cannot get superb statues at who knows what cost, delivered on time. Nor can anyone tell me what on earth those beautiful stone spheres represent, all the way down our traffic free town centre. What was wrong with plants that attract butterflies, trees, flowers etc.?
Furthermore the Millennium Ball is beyond the understanding of most sane people, although maybe our highly respected councillors can tell me otherwise.
All in all, I think Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council is delivering excellent value for money, and, sorry have to go, men in white coats have come to pick me up now.
When are our highly respected councillors going to use their resident given power, to do something about our wonderful main attraction named Lord Square?
ALAN R VERNON, council tax payer, Lytham Road, Blackburn.
