AT the age of 68 Mr Laurence Mahon accomplished a marathon feat in memory of his brother who died more than a year ago.
Mr Mahon, who lives in Ainsworth Road, Bury, walked from Southport to Hull to raise money for Bury Hospice in the name of his brother Johnny.
Johnny was well-known for singing in pubs to raise money for charities. He died aged 65.
Mrs Vera Brierley, who used to organise charity gigs with Johnny, said: "Laurence said he wanted to walk in memory of his brother and asked if I could organise sponsorship. Laurence, like his brother, often raises money for charity."
"All the pubs where Johnny used to perform helped with the sponsorship. So far we have received £800 with more to come," said Mrs Brierley, who lives in South Bank Road in Bury.
She added: "The money got in so far was presented at the White Lion in Bury, where the landlady has been fantastic organising raffles and collections for the walk."
The walk took eight days to complete.
"The money was handed over on Laurence's 69th birthday," said Mrs Brierley.
