TOILET facilities for bowlers in Wyre could yet be saved.
The loos were threatened with closure in a money-saving operation, but after a meeting with Wyre Council, the chance of a compromise has opened up.
The bowlers have been told the toilets can be kept open for their own use if they clean them and take out appropriate insurance.
Mrs Eileen Price, secretary of Wyre Borough Bowling Clubs United, said that the cost would be much less than the council had originally quoted.
"We are thinking about it. We have more negotiating to do at the moment," she said, adding that there would be a joint meeting of the clubs on Friday.
Councillor Len Jolley said: "We have asked bowling club representatives to come back to us with their suggestions as soon as possible.
"If alternative arrangements cannot be made to offset some of the costs then the public conveniences will have to close."
