A CLEVELEYS cyclist who only took up pedalling a year ago, will be tackling the 500-mile Tower to Tower Cycle challenge which starts on Sunday (Sept 1).
Robert Nelder, 43, of Holmefield Avenue, is one of 22 cyclists who will set off from Blackpool Tower on the six-day cycle ride to the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
A director of the Cliffs Hotel, North Promenade, Robert is well-prepared for the average daily pedal of 60 miles.
"I cycle two or three times a week and cover more than 100 miles. I'm excited to take up this challenge, but have to admit to being a bit nervous as well," he says.
The challenge, which is in its fourth year, aims to raise more than £33,000 for the National Kidney Research Fund.
Father-of-two, Robert has already raised more than £3,500 for the charity.
The UK-based entrants, whose ages range from 18-55, will start their ride from Blackpool's North Pier at 9am on Sunday. They will be accommodated each night in hotels and guest houses en route.
Participants will receive a certificate of achievement, a medal and a slap-up dinner in a chic Parisienne restaurant.
National Events Manager, Narissa Frost said:"It takes a lot of will and stamina to cycle around 60 miles a day and we look forward to celebrating with all our participants in Paris."
