This week, with IAN WOOLLEY, chairman of Blackburn, Hyndburn and Ribble Valley NHS Trust
KEEN walker Ian Woolley loves to visit the Lake District but says there are many pleasant and scenic walks in Lancashire.
Among his favourites he lists Billinge Wood, Witton Park, Pleasington and Hoghton, all near Blackburn, and says the Pendle countryside is "absolutely charming". Mr Woolley particularly likes the stretch of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal near Foulridge.
But at the moment his Hot Spots are any of the Magic Eye walks being organised to raise money for the East Lancashire Cancer Scanner Appeal. Sponsored walks in Blackburn, Burnley, Clitheroe, Hyndburn, Nelson and Rossendale have been organised for Sunday, October 13, to add to the coffers of the £200,000 appeal for a state-of-the-art endoscopic ultrasound scanner to avoid the need for investigative surgery.
Mr Woolley, who is helping to organise the event, said: "The Magic Eye walks are all designed for people to enjoy walking without it being too strenuous. There is a shorter walk at each location for people with younger families. We would like to encourage disabled people to get out with their carers -- even if they are in a wheelchair we can suggest walks for them."
