A BAND of three is hoping to put Barrowford on the map as the place to be with the opening of a cutting-edge wine bar.

The trio of dynamic proprietors at Rood Bar in Gisburn Road have all used their differing backgrounds and personalities to help make it a surefire success.

The opening night was held on Thursday and went down a storm with more than one hundred people from across the area who packed into the bar which has been set up by Californian Jim Huntoon, local hairdresser Paul Smith and graphic designer Neil Clegg.

Jim, 41, has worked in bars and restaurants in Los Angeles and Hawaii before moving to Burnley and has helped tailor the bar to the needs of people living in Barrowford and surrounding areas.

He said: "I think the bar suits the area very well. We are looking to offer an alternative for people who either want to come and relax with us and have a drink or be wined an dined like they never have before.

"It is very exiting for the area, and from the crowds we attracted on Thursday I think we will do very well here."

The bar offers exclusive products including specialist champagnes, wines, cocktails, beers from all over the world as well as a selection of fresh food with a modern edge.

The bar is not something found in a normal town centre, as it does not provide any cask ales.

Jim added: "The response so far to the bar has been superb. I think people are genuinely impressed by the design, the layout and the things we have to offer.

"We have a unique minamalistic style with a hint of sarcasm. We hope people will not be afraid to pop in and try us out."
