MEMBERS of Darwen Lions are hoping for good weather tomorrow as they stage a fun day to raise funds.

The event at Darwen Leisure Centre car park is designed to allow children enjoy themselves the day before they return to school. There will be a fun fair, gymnastic display, charity stalls and a 'happy hour' for adults to have a drink and unwind too.

Darwen Lions are trying to raise £3,000 after their 23rd annual gala was ruined by rain in June.

Unless they reach their target, Christmas parties for children and pensioners may have to be cancelled.

Darwen Lions have pledged a portion of the cash from the September 1 event to the Lancashire Evening Telegraph's Magic Eye Appeal, which aims to raise £200,000 for a state-of-the-art ultrasound endoscopic scanner. A recruitment evening for the Lions will be held at Whitehall Country Club, Ross Street, Darwen, from 8pm this Thursday.
