BLACKBURN Hawks have been grounded and are without a game this weekend.

The Hawks had been expecting to make the long journey to Peterborough to face the Islanders in a tough Premier Cup clash. But a mix-up over dates has left Bobby Haig's men high and dry.

Coach Haig explained: "It's certainly not our fault, but Peterborough tell us they have games already booked and were not expecting to entertain us on Sunday, as we thought.

"It could be a bonus, though, as it gives us more time to train together and prepare for the new season."

Haig was delighted to end speculation and confirm the transfer of Chris Black from Dumfries after the experienced skater agreed to join the Hawks this week.

"He's a very robust player," grinned Haig.

"He's played at a higher level, skates very hard and will be very good for the team.

"It's great to have Chris on board before the new season."

Having drawn a blank on Sunday, Blackburn Hawks are next in action on Sunday September 8 when they entertain Telford Wildfoxes in a return challenge match at the Arena.

Face-off is at 6pm.

Meanwhile, the Peterborough cup-tie will be re-arranged but no new date has been finalised.
